The Year in Review - 2017

In 2017 we celebrated the 35th Anniversary of our foundation. It truly was a remarkable year, made so by new friends, events and of course families touched by our mission. This year proved to be busier than 2016 indeed; helping around 100 families throughout the twelve months, distributing over $150,000 in grants. Our assistance this year covered rent, travel expenses, utility bills, accommodation for families living out of the Metropolitan area, food & clothing expenses, funeral expenses.

Once again, our Annual Friendship Ball was a success with our wonderful Men of the Year, Ray Baccala and Andy Breslin. In 2018, we will be celebrating two more great men, namely, James Cahill and Tim Dillon. We will be returning to the beautiful Pierre Hotel, Friday, February 23rd. SAVE THE DATE and get your tickets by February 2nd to avoid disappointment.

This year was a year of firsts for several things.....

Our first HIGH TEA & TLC event was held at Bobby Vans on Central Park South and was such a success that we have committed to making the event an annual one. Although it is a much smaller function than our two main fundraisers, everyone who attended really enjoyed giving something back and making an impact. The 50 care bags that were lovingly created on the day were distributed to four of our partnering hospitals throughout the summer with great thanks from the parents and social workers who received them.

Unfortunately, we had to postpone our Golf Classic scheduled for June, 19th, due to poor weather conditions. None the less, our "rain date" in September was the most glorious day of the month and our golfers, stayed loyal to their word had a wonderful day on the green and made it one of the most financially successful Classics in years. "Our kids" and their families are truly grateful.

2017 also brought us our first New York City Marathon runner. Lucy Walters contacted us with a keen interest to run for our cause in the November marathon. Of course we jumped at the offer. Lucy ran the race in four and a half hours and raised over $10,000 for the foundation. Lucy has offered to head up a Pope Foundation team to run in the 2018 NYC Marathon. Hopefully this will blossom into a tradition for our foundation. Watch this space!! And if you are interested please email us!

2017 truly was a wonderful year for the foundation. We look forward to what 2018 will bring....

As the year comes to a close and before you finalize your charitable giving, please consider a donation to our Holiday Campaign.
