Meet Our 2016 Men of the Year!

The late Joseph J. Coffey (left)

Joseph Coffey, legendary New York City detective, best selling author, and loving husband, father and grandfather, was taken from us just days after he warmly and proudly accepted our invitation to be our 2016 Honoree along with his dear friend, Joe Coppotelli. Joe was born and raised in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan and wanted to be a New York City cop since the age of 10. He was known as a “tough as nails,” no-nonsense Irish cop and was one of the greatest detectives in the NYPD. He was a larger than life guy on the beat and at home. Joe was very much a big family man, too and was extremely proud of his three children, Joseph Jr., Steven and Kathleen, as well as six beautiful grandchildren. His first wife, Patricia, died in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Susan McGonigle Coffey.

Joe Coffey was a hero to many New Yorkers and a great friend to us. We were shocked and saddened by this loss, but it is our honor to pay tribute to him and his decades of dedication to the Frances Pope Foundation at this year’s Annual Friendship Ball.
